Our Mission
We are a Virginia 501c non-profit organization striving to assist the medically uninsured and underinsured citizens of Lancaster, Northumberland, and Richmond Counties. Our goal is to connect in-need citizens with resources and financial programs to assist with medications and Physician ordered medical equipment. We provide this assistance regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, or gender.
How we began…
The RIVERLAND AREA MEDICAL PROGRAM started as a result of seeing numerous people in our community not able to get needed medications. Studies show a quarter of patients don’t’ take the medications they need because they can’t afford them. This is a program to help meet that need.
GUIDELINES FOR REQUESTING AID
- A Virginia driver license/ID that is valid, including local address
- A local bill (electric, water) with name that indicates current address
- Documented request from provider
- Disclosure of health insurance information
- Description of specific circumstances that are making it difficult for applicant to pay for this need themselves
- Disbursements are paid directly to provider
IMPORTANT:
All decisions on needs are discussed at board meetings or specially called meetings depending on the need and everything is based on funds availability.

- ARE THERE FREE SAMPLES AVAILIBLE?
- IS THIS DRUG COVERED BY INSURANCE PLAN?
- IS THERE A CHEAPER DRUG THAT WILL WORK?
- IS THERE A GENERIC VERSION?
- DOES THE DRUG COMPANY HAVE AN ASSISTENCE PROGRAM OR COUPONS?
- ARE THERE STATE/LOCAL PROGRAMS THAT CAN HELP?
- SOCIAL SECURITY HAS A PROGRAM CALLED “EXTRA HELP WITH MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS”
